Puppy Training Tip That
Works
You have a new puppy and you want a puppy training tip that works for
you and make it easier for the puppy to fit into your family life. No problem. There are lots of puppy
training tips I can share with you. There is just one thing to remember. You have to have patience and spend
the time to go over and over the training until your puppy ‘gets the message’ and responds as you want it to.
One important puppy training tip that you need to know is that the more you train your puppy, the easier it
becomes to train him.
I have been training a young Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the latest trick I
have taught him is to softly give me a throat murmur to let me know when he wants some food! He now does that
murmur when I say (in a soft murmur myself) ‘hello’. You can eventually leave the food reward out and he will still
respond, appearing as though he is greeting me back with a murmured ‘hello’.
You will initially want your puppy to sit, stay, drop and come. One puppy training
tip is to start off at a puppy training class, often held in Vet clinics, then do at least six weeks in an
obedience training school. This not only teaches your puppy some of the basics, but it also socialises him with
other dogs and people.

However, you need to complement the external training with extra training that you
do at home. A puppy training tip is not to train the puppy where he plays. So if the back yard is his play area,
train in the front yard or inside (depending on the size of the dog). When I want to show a baby puppy, they have
to stand for examination by the judge without too much fidgeting.
The puppy training tip that I use is to have the puppy indoors with me when I am
watching TV. Every time an ad comes on, I get the puppy to stand. By this repetition, without it taking too long
(just the length of time an ad takes to run) the puppy gets the message very quickly. I had a lot of success with
my baby puppies in the ring because they were so well behaved and allowed the judge to examine them instead of
squirming and wriggling around.
Another puppy training tip that you will want to learn is how to house break
your puppy. You will also want to know how to stop it from chewing or play biting and how to introduce
it to your children. There is more information on this website re how to solve these problems, but I would like to
mention here how to introduce your puppy to your children.
Puppies and Children
A very important puppy training tip is to be very strict with the
children and what they can do and when they can do it. For instance, never let them pick up the puppy. It is
too easy for them to drop it as it wriggles and squirms. Rather have them sit and let the puppy bounce
around them. Another important puppy training tip is to remember that the puppy needs plenty of rest. Children
must be made to realise that they are never to wake a puppy and it is best if you set the times when they can
play. It is very easy to turn a puppy into an aggressive one if they are forever hassled by young
children.
