A Powerful Way To Get Your Dog To Its Obedient Best!
Welcome to this 7 part Mini Course on Dog training. The course will open your eyes to
new ideas and concepts when training your dog. You may end up getting pretty excited at the possibilities this
course reveals; I certainly hope you do, as there is nothing more fulfilling than to watch a dog use its
intelligence to learn a skill and to know that it was you that enabled him to do this.
Most people with dogs have attended (or at least heard of) obedience training. This
is a very well accepted form of training and can achieve great results. There are many obedience classes available
and Vet clinics usually hold puppy training classes too.
These classes are great for socializing your dog and when you forge ahead in
obedience classes you can also undertake obedience judging at regulated shows and receive certification for the
standard you have reached.
All dog training is good, as long as it is done with love and never with punishment.
A dog that is bullied in training may still perform, but it will be obvious that he does not like the work and you
will seldom get the best from him.
With the introduction of dog whispering (made popular in a TV series); people have
begun to experiment with alternative ways to train a dog. This method came from the horse whispering that was made
so successful by Monty Robbins, when training horses.
My Dad used to break in horses and train working dogs, using the old traditional
method. His technique was probably quicker, but the horse and/or dog partly had their spirit broken to achieve the
domestication and obedience dad wanted. There certainly would have been an element of fear in the early
training.
The clicker method is used extensively with exotic animals in zoos, with amazing
results. And now dog training is using the same technique. Clicker training depends on you understanding the way a
dog thinks; it is built on mutual respect, love and reward Some people still prefer dog obedience classes; others like dog whispering and a few
are trying the clicker method. It doesn’t really matter which technique you use, as long as you and your dog are
happy with learning.
In the next 6 parts of this mini course, I will introduce the clicker method to you
and in some cases compare it to the other two methods of training a dog. It is up to you to decide which technique
you want to use. There is a great book available on dog trainingthat will give you a wealth
of knowledge and go into more detail on obedience and dog whispering than I do in this course.
I have put together a little ‘soap opera’ of Cooper performing a series of his
tricks, for you to enjoy. It is obvious that this little dog thoroughly enjoys what he is doing. So take 45 seconds
to make your day and bring a smile to your face.
See you next lesson.
